Are you the kind of person who just gets on with it? You think you can do no more but, here you are, doing more?
You know you need to make changes, but it never seems to be the right time. And you don’t have time to make it happen anyway, what with everything else that’s going on.
Well, you may not know it, but you are a member of The Keep Going and Ignore the Risks Club.
And what a club it is. High achievers, hard workers, the salt of the earth who wouldn’t dream of letting anyone down. Except themselves. Until their mind and/or body give up on them. Because enough is enough, whether they choose to recognise it or not.
Burnout is a total loss of energy and an inability to function effectively, experienced as a result of overwork. Breakdown, by contrast is a mental illness resulting from severe depression, stress or anxiety.
You’ve heard the phrase “breakdown before breakthrough”? Well, of course you can power through and wait until you get to that point before you start to make changes, but given that it can take around a year, and maybe more to recover, during which time it is extremely difficult to function at all, would it serve you better to take the lead before that slippery slope gets any closer?
Warmly
Tricia
